LNG is the acronym for Liquefied Natural Gas. LNG is predominantly methane, that has been cooled sufficiently to a temperature of –161° C, at atmospheric pressure, changing it from a gas into a liquid that is 1/600th of its original volume. This dramatic reduction allows it to be shipped safely and efficiently aboard specially designed LNG vessels.
LNG is odourless, colourless, non-corrosive, non-toxic, non-flammable and non-explosive. When vaporized, it burns in concentrations of 5% to 15% on being mixed with air.
Natural gas is the cleanest burning fossil fuel. As compared to coal or oil, natural gas combustion produces lesser emissions. As a result, greenhouse gas emissions impact is significantly reduced by using environmentally friendly natural gas.
